The Zohar (Hebrew: זֹהַר, lit. Splendor or Radiance), is a collection of books that include commentary on the mystical and hidden aspects of the Torah, scriptural interpretation and commentary about Jewish psychology and wisdom. The Zohar is the foundational work in the body of literature which makes up Jewish mystical thought – the Kabbalah.
The Zohar is written in Aramaic, a dialect of the holy language Hebrew which uses Hebrew letters. Jewish tradition teaches that the Hebrew letters themselves are the building blocks of creation and every letter has its own spectacular power to influence reality. The full spiritual rewards of the Zohar cannot be accessed by reading a translation because the spiritual power of the Hebrew letters is lost in translation.Understanding is not important; each letter has a spiritual essence which impacts on physical existence. Rabbi Ovadia Yossef, Rabbi Shlomo Amar, Rabbi Shmueli and Rabbi Tzion Buaron recently called “for every person to read a page of the holy Zohar each day”, stating that “even the words alone are able to purify the soul”.
The Zohar opens a window to the mystical world of the Kabbalah. Reading a daily chapter of the Zohar is considered a tool for receiving blessings and wisdom.
